Ever wanted to experience the excitement of playing in a big band? Here’s your chance!
Lana Law is one of New Zealand’s most respected and in-demand band leaders, teachers, performers and adjudicators. She currently directs the All Girl Big Band, Rangi Ruru Big Band, Middleton Grange Big Band and the Christchurch Youth Jazz Orchestra, and is a familiar and highly respected figure in New Zealand's jazz community.
Join Lana for a fun and practical big band workshop open to instrumentalists of all ages. Participants will experience the thrill of playing together as a big band while exploring jazz feel, ensemble playing and improvisation.
The workshop is open to players of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass and drums. Do you play an instrument that’s not listed here? Get in touch when you register and we’ll see how we can include you.
Music will be emailed to participants ahead of the workshop. You should be comfortable reading and following a chart.
The workshop will take place at The Piano on Armagh Street and will finish with a short performance from 12 - 12.15 in the main auditorium.
All ages welcome. Bring your instrument and come experience the big, big sound of a big band!
