Vivian, Janetta, and Fifian are 16-year-old violinists from Burnside High School who are currently studying under Arna Morton. Vivian and Fifian began violin at the age of four, and Janetta at six. United by a shared dedication for music, the trio have developed a strong sense of ensemble built on trust, collaboration, consistent practice, and lots of fun.

Their passion for chamber music began in 2024, when they came together and formed a trio for the New Zealand Chamber Music Contest. That year, under the mentorship of Arna Morton and Grace Stainthorpe, they placed 2nd at the Regional Finals in Christchurch and were awarded the Adjudicator’s Award at Nationals for their expressive playing, cohesive ensemble sound, and unique musical interpretations.

In 2025, they were joined by Olina Zeng, creating a violin quartet. Once again under the tutoring of Arna Morton, they performed Grażyna Bacewicz’s Quartet for Four Violins and placed 1st at the Regional Finals of the same contest, earning another spot in the National Finals.

Beyond competition, the trio find joy in exploring different violin trios together while continuing to develop their solo repertoire, personal technique, and skill. Both Vivian and Fifian completed their Trinity College ATCL Diploma in Violin Performance earlier this year, while Janetta is currently working towards the qualification.

The three best friends love making music together, performing at various community concerts, and simply having fun busking in the heart of Christchurch. Through their performances, they share their passion for music, bringing joy to listeners of all ages. Their mutual love of violin playing not only strengthens their friendship but also inspires those around them, leaving a lasting impression wherever they perform through their smiles and enthusiasm.
