Born into a musical household, pianist Anna Maksymova began her formal music education at the Donetsk Music School for gifted children in Ukraine. In New Zealand Anna has completed Bachelor of Music Degree with First-Class Honours under tutelage of Professor Michael Endres at the University of Canterbury. Further studies took her to the Frankfurt Hochschule fur Musik, where she completed Masters of Music in piano performance in the class of renowned Russian pianist and teacher Lev Natochenny, himself a disciple of Lev Oborin.

As a student Anna was a regular soloist in the “Outstanding Young Musicians in Concert” series in Christchurch Music Centre. She is the winner of the Lewis Eady Charitable Trust Emerging Artist Series and is the 3rd prize winner at Kerikeri International Piano Competition in New Zealand. Anna is the recipient of the George Russell Music Scholarship, Ruby Hay Scholarship, Pettman Special Programme Scholarship, Leslie Atkinson Memorial Prize in Music and the Dame Malvina Major Foundation scholarship.

Currently Anna is living and working in Christchurch as a performing pianist and a teacher. Since her return from overseas in 2016 she has been involved as a soloist with the CSO, Akaroa Summer School, Dame Malvina Major Foundation and Chirny Presents. She is a regular performer for local concert series including Concert for Christchurch Foundation Trust, Rangiora library, Nut Point Centre and the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts lunchtime series. She also has been collaborating with the Baroque Music Trust since 2018 in their series Travel Thru Time. This collaboration included touring with performances to various locations around the South Island. Anna’s partners on stage have included some well known New Zealand musicians like Mark Walton, Mark Menzies, Juliet Reynolds-Midgley, Wade Kernot, Jonathan Tanner, Tomas Hurnik, Anna Hoetjes, Oliver Sewell among other. Recent collaborations included star singers Anna Leese and Paul Whelan.

Alongside professional engagements Anna volunteers playing the piano at the Christchurch Burwood Hospital and loves to organise free house concerts for friends and family.

Anna joined the Christchurch Committee for the Dame Malvina Major Foundation in 2023 and is also one of the tutors of Burnside High School Special Music Programme.
