We are honored to invite internationally acclaimed Taiwanese violist and erhu performer Dr. Andy Lin to lead a masterclass on March 1st in The Chamber @ The Piano, Christchurch. Dr. Lin is the cofounder and Artistic Director of the New Asia Chamber Music Society, renowned for his unique ability to perform both Western and Eastern music. The Strad praised him for “vivid yet tender control of rhythm, with subtle and exquisite details,” and The New York Times highly acclaimed his performances on both viola and erhu.

Dr. Lin received full scholarships to earn his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School and his Doctor of Musical Arts from SUNY Stony Brook, winning numerous international viola and concerto competitions. He has performed on world-class stages including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, collaborated with violin master Itzhak Perlman, and served as principal violist and chamber musician with ensembles such as New York Classical Players and Solisti Ensemble. His erhu performances have also been recognized internationally, including several U.S. and Asian world premieres and concerto performances.

In this masterclass, Dr. Lin will coach students Ary Son and Alicia Chen in performing Schubert’s Arpeggio Viola Sonata and Stamitz Viola Concerto, III. Movement, offering young musicians and music lovers a rare opportunity to learn directly from one of the world’s leading violists.
