has 3 x platinum albums, over 40million views on youtube, been a top 10 finalist in 'The Voice of Holland', opened for Jhene Aiko, Boney M,
Hollie Smith and headlined music festivals here and abroad. Due to her invaluable experience and expansive network her academy specialises in
‘bridging the gap’ into the music industry.

Anna Maksymova

Pianist Anna Maksymova is the winner of the Lewis Eady Charitable Trust Emerging Artist Series and a 3rd prize winner of Kerikeri International Piano Competition. Since the completion of her Masters degree in Germany, where Anna studied with the renowned professor Lev Natochenny, Anna has returned to Christchurch to continue doing what she likes to do best of all – perform and teach. She has performed as a soloist with the CSO, and is involved in concerts at the Akaroa Summer School, Dame Malvina Major Foundation and Concerts for Christchurch Trust. She now also teaches piano at all levels.

Natasha Chernousova

Originally from Perm, Russia, Natasha Chernousova lives in New Zealand since 2015. She earned her Masters Degree in Music in Russia at the Perm State University, and has been performing at the Perm Theatre Opera and Ballet for 12 years. After moving to New Zealand she became a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Registered Music teachers and currently plays in the Canterbury Philharmonia Orchestra. She has over 20 years of experience teaching flute, recorder and piccolo and continues to teach in Christchurch at the Piano.

Alice Tanner

Alice Tanner is a professional singer performing around New Zealand. She performs in many groups, including covers bands, jazz bands, duos, originals bands and also solo.

She studied at CPIT Jazz School, and has a Bachelor of Musical Arts majoring in Jazz Vocals. A classical background in both cello and piano to high levels and tertiary study in jazz singing means she is a well-rounded musician with a breadth of knowledge in different styles and genres.

Alice is also a singing teacher, teaching in schools and privately for people at any age or stage. She creates a fun, comfortable environment for singers to learn in.

MARGOT BUTTON is an experienced professional performer, arts educator and arts administrator, having appeared extensively as a soloist in opera, oratorio, song recital, musical theater, and jazz in New Zealand, Australia, England, and the USA. She has recorded for radio, television and film. Margot currently maintains a private voice studio, teaches voice at St. Andrew's College and conducts the CPIT 'Voiceworks' Jazz choir in Christchurch.

Tomas Hurnik – cello and chamber music.
He received his masters at the Academy of Music in Prague.
While studying he was an active performer, playing and recording as a soloist with different orchestras and as a member of chamber groups for Czech radio and concerts both in Czech and abroad (Germany, Austria, Japan and France).
In 1998 he was hired as the principal cellist for the Malaysian Philharmonic in Kuala Lumpur with which he played for four years. He then returned to Europe to study Baroque
cello in Frankfurt with Rainer Zipperling. He continued to actively perform with a variety
of period instrument chamber groups such as Musica Florea, Capella Regia Prague, Musica Aeterna and Solamente Naturali.
He now plays as the Associate Principal Cellist for Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
In 2015 he founded Baroque Music Community and Educational Trust of New Zealand to organize and perform concerts, workshops and masterclasses of Baroque music on period imstruments.

Tim Heeringa is a Christchurch guitarist, composer, music teacher and producer. Graduating with a Bachelor of Music at the Ara Institute of Technology in 2014, Tim has spent the last 4 years building up a portfolio of work across a wide range of musical endeavours. From playing as the guitarist in the hit NZ musical "That Bloody Woman" to writing music for other artists and shows such as: "PRINS","WULFIE" and the court theatre's show "Puff the Magic Dragon". As well as performing and writing Tim also has a strong passion for music production and artist development. In 2019 he plans to release his first album under the banner "WULFIE" and continue to write, perform and produce throughout the country.

CAF produces a biennial multi-arts festival in Canterbury. The festival typically features a wide range of artists who come to share their stories from many different regions and cultural backgrounds; from places as diverse as China, Mexico, Denmark, the UK, South Korea, Sweden, Germany, Australia, as well as our home-grown talent. The pan arts programme is presented across a range of live shows/events/exhibitions including but not exclusive to: theatre, dance, music, visual arts, cabaret, circus and comedy. A schools programme is a key component with shows, events and workshops aimed at primary, intermediate and high schools and large free community events are a core part of the engagement strategy.

The Trinity exam room is the central location for all Trinity College London examinations and professional development sessions held in Christchurch – Music, Theory of Music, Drama and Performance, Rock & Pop. Exams are held several times throughout the year from May onwards, with the exam room and office/waiting room (room 20) available for hire at other times.

Literary Events

WORD Christchurch presents a huge variety of literary events, from our biennial Writers & Readers Festival – the largest literary event in the South Island – to one-off events with visiting and local authors. In May each year we partner with the Auckland Writers Festival for an Autumn Season, and in August and September on the festival off-year we partner with Christchurch Arts Festival for a series of ideas-based events. Past guests include such luminaries as Eleanor Catton, Michael Palin, Julia Gillard, Jung Chang, Ian Rankin, Ruth Reichl and children’s sensations David Walliams and Andy Griffiths. Our events bring writers, thinkers and performers together to celebrate the written word and provide a window for readers to respond to ideas. We have relationships with other organisations in Christchurch with the aim of including as many people from the community as possible to be part of our events.
The office at The Piano is run by the two Directors -Marianne Hargreaves and Rachael King.

Arts Tour Organiser

Arts On Tour NZ (AOTNZ) organises tours of outstanding New Zealand performers to rural and smaller centres in New Zealand. The trust receives funding from Creative New Zealand as well as support from Central Lakes Trust, Community Trust of Southland, Interislander, Otago Community Trust, Rata Foundation and the Southern Trust. AOTNZ liaises with local arts councils, repertory theatres and community groups to bring the best of musical and theatrical talent to country districts. The AOTNZ programme is environmentally sustainable – artists travel to their audiences rather than the reverse.

Seta Timo is a double bass major graduate from both Canterbury University and the Ara Musical Arts programme. He is writing music for short films and music groups, planning community concerts and teaching bass and guitar.

Daisy Speaks is the current New Zealand slam poetry champion. As well as offering writing workshops and producing arts shows, she is working on some new material. Daisy Speaks has shows in Wellington, Auckland and the Australian Poetry Festival planned for 2018.

Barrett is a Brass Teacher and Performer. He Currently has studios in Christchurch and Wellington. He gained his Masters Degree with honours in Classical Performance Trumpet from the Royal Academy of Music in London and also holds his Licentiate to the Royal Academy of music for Brass Education. Currently Barrett performs regularly with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, he is Principal Trumpet of Orchestra Wellington, and performs around the globe with NZ Reggae band The Black Seeds. Prior to his study abroad Barrett gained a degree in Jazz Trumpet at the Victoria University, School of Music and also has been an Artist teacher at the New Zealand School of Music, Wellington.

Ukrainian born, studied violin at Kiev Special Music School for Gifted Children from seven until graduation at eighteen.Continued studies at Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Kiev, graduated with Diploma as Orchestra Player, Chamber Orchestra Player, Quartet Player and Teacher. Played with Kiev Opera House for young people for eight years and toured Europe. Joined National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine for five years; touring extensively.Recruited by Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in 1996 as Associate Principal 2nd Violin, whilst touring with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine in Australia Violin teacher whose students have proven to high achievers in ABRSM examination in New Zealand.
