The Canterbury Philharmonia Orchestra presents a concert of music inspired by fantasy and fairytale.

Enjoy the French composer Paul Dukas’ “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” written in 1897 and made famous by Mickey Mouse in Walt Disney’s 1940 animated film “Fantasia”.  Listen to Carl Nielsen’s “Aladdin Suite” – pieces from a lavish production based on the tale of Aladdin in 1001 Arabian Nights, written and produced in the final months of World War I to lift the spirits of Nielsen’s fellow Danes.  The Italian composer Gioachino Rossini and German composer Engelbert Humperdinck each composed an opera based on a famous fairytale: Rossini’s Cinderella in 1816/1817 and Humperdinck’s Hänsel and Gretel in 1893.  The orchestra will perform the overtures to both operas.
