"Very precise moves, slow and sensuous or cautiously frivolous, but proudly elegant at all times."
"The five musicians managed a very impressive performance with remarkable tempi, unique in many ways for the individuality of single "voices'', particularly virtuoso input from Illes."
- Otago Daily Times
Baroque music is a form of classical music from 17th century Europe. It is a time in musical history when melody accompanied by expressive harmony was developed; the form of music that is so common in modern times. This period produced rich and beautiful musical works by composers such as Bach, Vivaldi and Handel. Authentic interpretation of Baroque music on period instruments is unique in that instead of using steel strings as we do today, traditional gut strings are used which produce a more direct clear sound, but need the acoustical amplification of the venue; cathedrals and churches usually being ideal. Also the tuning was lower, which put less stress on the instrument itself and thus the sound coming from the instrument is more soothing to the human nervous system.
