A Tribute to NZ Popular Music - The Vocal Collective

One of New Zealand’s largest contemporary choirs, The Vocal Collective was formed to bring joy in the aftermath of the Canterbury earthquakes. Gemma Greenwood on Radio New Zealand Today referred to the group as “the single, most magnificent thing to come out of the earthquakes”. Over the following, challenging decade, TVC has continued to uplift the community with its unique versions of contemporary favourites. Its repertoire is chosen from a wide range of genres and vocal styles such as pop, rock, jazz and musical theatre, creating a stimulating mix for performers and audiences alike.

The 90-strong ensemble, led by Artistic Director, Richard Marrett performs with great precision, passion and impact. The rich sound of their massed voices blending in harmonious ballads and rip-roaring rock classics commands attention and captures the audience’s imagination with each engaging performance. It is no surprise that they are in demand for concerts, corporate entertainment, wedding celebrations and numerous
community events.

Songs from the first TVC Great Kiwi Songbook collection revived iconic New Zealand favourites from across the decades and explored popular repertoire in Te Reo Māori. Audiences and singers alike will be looking forward to more reminders of the wealth of talent in our song-writing history as they anticipate The Vocal Collective retrospective Tribute to New Zealand Popular Music at The Piano.
